Pennhurst State School and Hospital were also known as the Eastern Pennsylvania State Institution for the Feeble-Minded and Epileptic. As the name suggests, it was for mentally and physically disabled people. It was situated in Spring City, Pennsylvania, in the United States. Pennhurst State school and the hospital was opened on November 23rd of 1908. After four years of commencing operations, it got overcrowded.

All the residents admitted to this place were categorized as insane or imbecile concerning mental conditions, healthy or epileptic under physical conditions, and good, poor, or treated teeth according to dental categories.  The residencies in the Pennhurst State School and Hospital were assigned to certain tasks. They did farming, laundry, shoemaking, sewing, butchering, domestic duties, painting, mattress making, etc.

Why Pennhurst State School and Hospital was closed?
